Posted on December 13, 2020October 18, 2021 by Cozy Home Selecting the right sofa The living room is wide open for you to be creative, as your furniture options are vast. Your living space should be a room you’re proud of. It may be the only room in your home that guests see because its where you do your entertaining, so leaving a welcoming and personalized space is key. For example, there is a growing trend to focus more on cozying up the living room, making it into a retreat-like space and creating nooks within larger living spaces. When choosing your furnishings think about your needs and consider your focal points. The three most common focal points for a living space are the TV, the fireplace and a window with a beautiful view. You can even combine your focal points by hanging the TV above your fireplace. The living room can have any number of different configurations.Don’t forget you’re the creator of your home so think first about your needs. If you like to gather around the TV and relax with your family on a comfy sofa than you should probably look for a sectional sofa or an L-shape sofa.Do you want to have a conversational focus? Having your sofa and armchairs facing each other will help achieve this. The Chanel sofa is an elegant formal sofa that can be customized in any size and fabric. You could place a 3-seater facing a 2-seater and create a welcoming living room for cozy conversations. Don’t get stuck: It is wise to start with a furniture plan before you shop, but don’t be afraid to rearrange, and then rearrange again and again. This is often the only way to find the ideal solution. Plus, your same old things can look completely different when reshuffled. Invest in a Quality Sofa Your sofa will be one of the most used items in your living room. When buying a sofa, invest in quality and you’ll be repaid in comfort for years to come. A quality sofa lasts a lifetime. Quality translates into beauty and comfort. The ideal stuffing is soft fiber, wrapped around a piece of foam for some shape-holding stability. Foam feather wraps are the best option for seat cushions. They’ll hold their shape and you won’t be forever fluffing them up before sitting down. A sofa with piped edges conveys a sense of luxury.Advice: Please do not get a matching set of furniture. Your armchairs should not be the same as your sofa. Matchy-matchy might be the most common choice but won’t create a visual interest. You can stay in the same color palette for a patterned armchair or create a contrast.
Posted on November 17, 2020December 15, 2020 by Shyam Renjan Cozifications – the beauties in the interior called “Home DÉCOR” What does the word “cozy” mean to you? When I think about cozy – it means for me cuddling up in a warm blanket on my plush cozy sofa with a cup of hot chocolate on an autumn evening. The best background music is the sound of raindrops on my windows. These are my cozy memories while I’m in Dubai and missing those beautiful Berlin autumn evenings. This chapter is about these little things that add a warm feeling to our home – I call it cozifications. Those items that add dimensions to space, like rugs or shags, textiles, throws – and patterns. We can start by adding those little things and we will achieve a warm and cozy feel.Cozifications create a home that looks loved and lived-in, which in turn creates a home that is loved and lived-in. A welcoming home for your family and friends adds personality. Those are the magic things that turn a house into a home regardless of where you live. Throws – The mobile Decor Throws whether made of cashmere, soft wool or cotton, throw blankets are a form of mobile decor that can travel from one room to room slung over our shoulders. As long as they’re meant to be used. They can be just draped over the arm of a sofa, they signal that a room is prepared to offer comfort. A draped throw over the arm of the sofa is creating an unspoken invitation to cuddle up and feel warm. Textiles warm rooms. Decorate a piece of woven fabric, like guilt, blanket, or tapestry, that you can drape over a table, lay on a bed, or use to cover the back of the sofa. And for those who own solid-color sofas which is true for most of us, draping something visually interesting over it helps to break up an otherwise bulking mass. Candle Magic Another cozification décor is candles. Lighting plays an essential role when it comes to creating an elegant mood. The candlelight is hypnotic and flattering. Candles mix best with dimly lit rooms. So keep all complementary lights low so that candlelight can cast its magic spell. You’re the creator All the home décor items mentioned in my post will help you creating your cozy nest. You can play around and try different things while styling your space. Try to mix old with new. A newly purchased rug can be overlayed on your already existing rug and it will add visual interest to your room. Don’t be hesitant when mixing colors and patterned pillows on your sofa. You can stay in the same color palette and mix different textured and shaped cushion on your sofa – it will look dynamic and yet elegant. The process of decoration should be always fun – if you are finding it overwhelming stop and leave the room and do something else. Look for inspiration on Pinterest or interior magazine. Posted on November 7, 2020December 15, 2020 by Cozy Home Your Fresh Flowers will last longer with these Little Magic Tricks! A bouquet of flowers is always a good idea. Flowers add so much beauty to a room. Fresh Flowers make any space feel instantly grown. The color and the scent can lift and refresh any room. In this blog I’m sharing with you a few secrets on how to keep your flowers last longer. My friend in Berlin who is a passionate florist, gave me several useful tips that I can’t wait to share with you. The tricks are simple but can definitely increase the lifetime up to 2-3 weeks.Step 1 Always use a clean vase. Before placing your flowers in a beautiful vase it’s an important step to wash the dust away from your vase. I prefer to wash my vase with hot water and dry it upside down. That way I minimize the bacteria that might later harm the flowers. Step 2Vase WaterOnce you have filled the water, put the vase to the side. Leave it for some time and allow the water to settle. That way the larger air bubbles will escape and the water will reach the room temperature. The secret to keeping cut flowers looking good for as long as possible is to minimize the growth of bacteria in the water and to provide nourishment to replace what the flowers would have gotten had they not been cut. This is why bouquets often come with sachets which usually contain a mild disinfectant and sugar. But there are many other ways you can stop your flowers wilting and drooping after only a few days. Step 3Allow Vase Water to SettleOnce you’ve done that, put the vase to one side and leave it for a while to allow some of the larger air bubbles to escape and for the water to reach room temperature. Flowers take warmer water in more efficiently than cold. Note: Woody steams prefer a deep drink. Fill the vase around 2/3rds full with warm tap water. Flowers with soft steams prefer shallow drink, fill the vase under half way. Step 4Keep the leaves out of waterOnce you’ve filled up your vase, be sure to remove all leaves from the part of the stem that’s under water – Sadly, these will rot and create bacteria, aka the real enemy of a long-lasting centerpiece. This not only helps the flowers but also keeps the water cleaner. Keep the water in the vase clean: Yup, that means dumping it out and refilling it every other day. That will extend the life of any blooms, even roses.Step 5Flower FoodDon’t forget to add the flower food. Usually you get the little sachets with the flower bouquet. If not simply add 2 tablespoon sugar to the water. Make sure it’s fully dissolved with a quick stir. Step 6Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle (one inch from the bottom)This instantly increases the surface area for water intake, so your flowers will be well hydrated. Don’t trash flowers with shorter stems. Instead display them in a small glass container or be creative and use a teacup. My advice: Increase the lifetime of your flower bouquet by separating the weaker steams from the once that look still fresh. Cut off the weak steam and place the flowers in small vases or glass containers. I personally love to use glass shots or other crystal glasses. I arrange the glass shots around the centerpiece on the table that gives me the option to extend their beauty and life.Remember to avoid cloudy water which is the main cause for short vase life. Keep the water in the glass clear and once your water is ready, repeat step 6 and cut the stems removing at least an inch from the bottom.
Posted on October 13, 2020December 15, 2020 by Cozy Home My Berlin Home – Dining Area In my first post I have invited you to our living room. In our happy place in berlin we don’t have much space – so I had to think around the corner to save space. The three magic words that are describing our cozy apartment are: comfy, functional and warm. Our apartment is an open-plan, that means this room is more like a dining area of a multifunctional space. The layout of this apartment is set on two levels. The kitchen, hall and dining area are placed on one level, the five little stairs are leading to the living area. Our dining area serves many purposes, from a place to enjoy meals with family and friends to a table which I use as my small office when I’m in Berlin. It’s a space where we love to gather around having a cup of green tea while enjoying our long conversations. It’s more of a casual dining room than formal one.We placed our round dining table next to the kitchen. This saves us from carrying meals through the living area – that’s very important in my case as I’m clumsy when I spill food around the rug. While selecting a dining table I continued with the modern country style. The round solid dining table with a big column caught my eye when I saw it presented in Paris. I’m a regular visitor of the famous tradeshow Maison et object – to keep up with the newest trends and source fabulous designs for Cozy Home. The Lyon Dining Table was shown in Paris and it was love at first sight. You can find the table online and customize it. Trust me you won’t regret it. Choosing a sturdy wood will ensure a long life for your dining table. Our dining table fits easily up to six people. The benefit of a round table is that it’s perfect for smaller spaces as it has no corners– its even more safe for small children.Dining ChairAnother option of saving space is when it comes down to selecting the dining chair. I selected the Naomi chairs without a arm rest, that gives me more seating space around the table. You can find the Naomi chairs at Cozy Home here Layout and shape of your dining table: You don’t have to buy a rectangular table simply because the room is rectangular. Mixing up linear lines creates interest, so an oval-shaped dining table will provide a nice contrast. The same applies in a square dining room-placing a round dining table often results in a more pleasing outcome for the space. I love to place a rug below a dining table. It’s more welcoming and cozy when you have a fluffy rug underneath the table. Our rug didn’t last long as we have furry babies!LightA chandelier above your table is a must. The light grey wooden beads light is suiting perfectly the color palette and ads a nice atmosphere in the evening. Luckily we have a lot of natural light coming in, so we only need to use the artificial light in the evening time. I installed a dimmer to set the right mood. A dimmer allows you more control over the way the room is lit in the evening. Another option to add more lighting is to place a floor lamp or table lamp.Next to the dining table I have placed the Lorient console. When we have guests over its an additional space for placing dishes or food items and on the other days I love to play around and decorate it according to the season with seasonal flower bouquets. Here is a sneak pic of my Easter Decor. Decorating with your family together are the best moments to become beautiful memories. A dining table is so much more than just a table – it becomes a part of the family, so choose it with love.
Posted on May 11, 2020December 15, 2020 by Cozy Home My Berlin Home – Living Room During the break out of corona I decided to fly back home and be there for my mother. The city where I grew up and spend the most of my life time – Berlin. When I arrived I was greeted by the spring weather and my lovely dogs; a Chihuahua named Sugar and my circus dog the toy Poodle, Raphael Pati Blues (full name by doggie passport). Our Berlin apartment is a very cozy small place – I love coming here and remembering my childhood. We recently renovated it and I helped my mum to furnish it – it turned out to be a happy place. When it comes to creating a home, think about three words you would like people to feel when they enter your home. Our three magic words for this apartment are: comfortable, functional and warm.Choose your moodRather than going for a particular style I first decided the mood. If you want a lively space, a mix of colors and patterns bring energy to a room. If you crave calm, choose subtle patterns or tone-on-tone, textured elements. My mom prefers neutral colors as she feels it’s much easier to decorate around it with funky home accessories and keep changing those. The beige walls are the perfect background to play in more neutral. Consider neutrals: If you have good natural light, all-white walls can be a great backdrop. Otherwise the space can feel cold and lifeless. A soft neutral like grey or taupe can be a pleasing way to warm a room. Deciding what you really want When furnishing our apartment I first thought first about the needs of my mum and my two lovely dogs. The first rule is as the home is for you and your family, mainly consider how your home can accommodate what you enjoy and need. Find solutions for your problems and decide what you really need. Our place is not big, but my mum loves to collect items and they need space. Remember to de-clutter your home you need to give all of your belongings a storage. You gonna live here so you have to be in love with your home. Most of us want to feel good about our home. We want to like being home and feel comfy and cozy. A Cabinet is a very useful helper The home of my Mum’s porcelain collection is a beautiful white cabinet with my favorite espagnolette locks in a nice antique finish. Antique patina of furniture gives the old wood look and makes a place very homie. A cabinet is a big helper in an apartment as it helps to avoid clutter and the items don’t get dusty. We use it for all our glassware, dishes and porcelain. When guests arrive the porcelain coffee set is always ready to serve within close reach. You can use a cabinet to store your books, dishes or show off your favorite home décor. Simple Solution- Sideboard with TV Table Another helper to declutter our living room is the Artem sideboard which also serves as a TV Unit. The elegant wood piece offers plenty of storage space for coffee books, dishes and other nick nacks. I’m not a fan of low TV Units as I don’t like to look down. A good option is to hang the TV on the wall, which I feel looks modern and saves space. We went ahead with a simple solution and placed our TV on top. The Artem has a big surface and we still managed to place a flower vase on the side. You can find the Artem Sideboard at Cozy Home here Your home will be more beautiful when everything is in place! Find your systems and containers that reflect your personality, suit your style, and make your home more efficient. #Functional furniture. The right pieces can make all the difference. The perfect SofaWe love to spend time together, what is better than a good chat with a cup of tea with your loved ones on a comfy sofa? Our sofa is our main furniture piece and we love itMy mum loves to watch old movies – the classical breakfast at Tiffanys or Mrs.Marple we watch over and over again. The comfy L-shape sofa is extra wide, extra soft and in an off white color which is the perfect choice for us. The best thing is after many years of use and having two dogs it still looks like new. The covers are removable, we can simply wash it in our washing machine. The fabric is such that it doesn’t show spots fast even though it is a bright color. The cushion durability is fantastic as the cushion are all perfect in shape. Consider to spend a bit more on your sofa, if you would like to keep it for long and always pay attention to the fabric. A quality sofa will last you a lifetime so invest in a good one. Quality translates into beauty and comfort.#Textured Fabric; Stands for Warm and comfyNest Coffee Tables – practical and useful! The Nest coffee table is another simple and useful furniture piece. The neutral wood and minimalistic metal frame gives it an airy look and indeed this beauty is light-weight so we can pull it when having a cup of tea – adjust it any way you like! The feature on the table is a unique lively vase which my Mum decorates with seasonal flowers. Flowers are an inexpensive way to add life and colors to your interior. In Dubai I prefer to use dry flowers as they last much longer. Create a Vignette you like to look at. Choose what you use – books, magazines, boxes, candles, trays, flowers or objects – according to what pleases your eye.You can find the Griffin Nest Tables at Cozy Home here To achive a beautiful vigentete try to create layers. Use objects with different heights. Go for different patterns. Add Flowers! Include a variety of shapes and textures. Stay in the color palette of your room. I hope you enjoyed my little excursion to Berlin and found some useful tips to create your Cozy Home. Have fun and enjoy the process and remember a home is never ready. Its like a story and you’re adding the chapetrs.
